What is BIW ?

Body in white (BIW) is the stage in the automobile manufacturing in which a car body’s frame has been joined together. BIW is the body of the car before painting process. 

The Workshop is designed in a way to deliver the basic concepts of BIW of the BIW design aspirants.  It starts with explaining the introduction to Body systems, Type of BIW Construction and goes no to the design fundaments of simple body components.

Body in white (BIW) is the stage in the automobile manufacturing in which a car body's frame has been joined together. BIW is before painting and before the motor, chassis sub-assemblies, or trim (glass, door locks/handles, seats, upholstery, electronics, etc.) have been assembled in the frame structure. Assembly involves different techniques such as welding (spot, MIG/MAG), riveting,  bonding and laser brazing.

BIW designers/engineers work in design, and R&D departments of Original Equipment Manufacturers, design houses, and tier-one suppliers in the automotive sector. They are also offered jobs by technology companies that provide engineering & design services, Product Lifecycle Management, and plant automation solutions to automobile manufacturers.

In this Workshop you will learn, Basic concepts of BIW design, assembly process, importance of  BIW durability  and how they protect the passengers life form the collision.
