What is the course about?

This is a 15-day extensive course featuring all types of power electronic converters used in Electric Vehicle drivetrain. It will start off with discussing buck, boost, buck boost, Cuk converters, Isolated Cuk converters, front-end AC-DC converters, Dual Active Bridge converters and the multilevel converters (2 and higher level) used in motor control. It will discuss about the modulation techniques and simulation strategies of some of the converters (H-bridge, Mulitlevel, DAB) in MATLAB/Simulink.

Pre-requisites:

  • Prior Knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink is recommended.
  • Interest to learn about power electronics converters and modulation techniques through simulations.
  • Background in Electrical or Electronics Engineering is preferred. Although people looking to switch into electric automotive industry might find it extremely useful.

A power electronic converter uses power electronic components such as SCRs, TRIACs, IGBTs, etc. to control and convert the electric power. The main aim of the converter is to produce conditioning power with respect to a certain application.

Due to the widespread transition of the automotive industry from tradition fuel based vehicles to electric vehicle, skilled EV professionals are always heavily sought by multinational automotive companies such as Toyota, Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai etc.

This is a four-day extensive workshop featuring all types of power electronic converters used in Electric Vehicle drivetrain. Through this workshop, one would learn the essentials in order to stimulate power electronics models using MATLAB and Simulink.

The workshop will cover most of the theory and implementations of the power electronics converters and will simulate few converters from each day as a method to understand how to simulate PECs in MATLAB/Simulink.
